Hi all and welcome to a new school year!
I am so excited to start this classroom website and keep you all up to date in a more efficient way! The purpose of this blog is that you will be able to access this page at anytime of day or night. No more searching for lost papers, no more "I forgot it at school" and no more having to save your needs until the next school day. I will keep resources posted, copies of homework, spelling lists, upcoming events, math video tutorials, and much more.
When everything settles down and you finally get to the dinner table and ask your third grader what they did at school that day, I am sure their typical response will be, "nothing!" Well I am here to assure you that we are doing "something" in class and that your child is learning! I will keep the blog updated with what we are studying in class and maybe even some conversation starters that you can use to help get your student to open up about their day.
Third grade is a pretty big transition year. The students start getting real percentage grades and go from learning to read, to reading to learn. Students have quite a bit of testing including but not limited to;
Beginning Of Grade Test
Read To Achieve
Spelling Inventory- given 3 times a year: Beginning. Middle, and End
USA TEST PREP: This is a reading & math test (on computer) required by the county at the end of each 9 week period. You will be given the test codes and a schedule for your testing time.
TRC: We have to test students (called “benchmarking”) at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. We have to “progress monitor” the remainder of the year.
Weekly Spelling Tests
Unit Tests
I know this may seem incredibly overwhelming, but we will get through it together! I am here to not only support your child, but to support you as a parent as well. They say, " it takes a village to raise a child" and I want to be apart of your village! I have no greater passion than teaching, and will stop at nothing to make sure your child receives everything they can possibly take in this year. My main goal is to meet your student where they are at and help them grow from there.
Final outcomes are not my main goal! The journey is what really counts. Lets teach our children that they do not have to reach perfection, that it is okay to make mistakes or fail, that what is really important is that they learn from their mistakes and they give 110% effort to OVERCOME their struggles without giving up or have any doubts about themselves. With that mentality we should be able to raise their self confidence levels and allow them to really open up to explore their passions and deepen their learning.
I cannot wait for an amazing school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nisely
